Testing for induction of clindamycin resistance in erythromycin-resistant isolates of Staphylococcus aureus.
Disk diffusion and broth microdilution (BMD) were used to perform clindamycin (CLI) induction testing on 128 selected nonduplicate isolates of Staphylococcus aureus. Disk diffusion testing involved placing CLI and erythromycin (ERY) disks approximately 12 mm apart (measured edge to edge) on a Mueller-Hinton agar plate that had been inoculated with an S. aureus isolate; the plate was then incuba...
متن کاملIn vitro induction of resistance to erythromycin by its metabolite.
Of the metabolites isolated from urine samples of patients treated with erythromycin, the 8,9-anhydroerythromycin A 6,9-hemiketal induced in vitro resistance to the parent drug and to carbomycin in the test strain Staphylococcus aureus RN 1389.
متن کاملInduction of telithromycin resistance by erythromycin in isolates of macrolide-resistant Staphylococcus spp.
Staphylococcal isolates were examined for possible macrolide-inducible resistance to telithromycin. All macrolide-resistant isolates demonstrated telithromycin D-shaped zones. This result did not discriminate between resistance due to an efflux mechanism (msrA) or a ribosomal target modification (ermA or ermC). Inducible telithromycin resistance in staphylococci does not appear to be analogous ...
متن کاملEnhanced resistance to erythromycin is conferred by the enterococcal msrC determinant in Staphylococcus aureus.
OBJECTIVES The msrC gene, found on the chromosome of Enterococcus faecium, shares a high degree of similarity with the staphylococcal erythromycin resistance determinant msr(A). The enterococcal determinant was cloned into Staphylococcus aureus to determine whether msrC could confer antibiotic resistance in staphylococci. METHODS A shuttle vector comprising pBluescript and pSK265 was used to ...
متن کاملEpimerization of erythromycin derivatives.
Dirithromycin (3) isomerizes upon dissolution in different solvents. From X-ray analysis of V-T 108, an analogue of dirithromycin, and comparative 1H and 13C NMR, and MS data, the isomer of dirithromycin was confirmed to be the C-16-(S)-epimer. The ratio of the two epimers at equilibrium conditions was approximately 8:2 (R/S) in methanol at room temperature.
